How to Have Personal Revival

Leonard Ravenhill gives us the steps for personal revival from the book of Joel,  taken from his classic book “Revival Praying”.

Joel 2: 12   “Therefore…. saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning….. Rend your hearts and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God”.

How to rend your hearts:  (from page 113)

1.  Self examination
2.  The conviction of the Holy Spirit
3.  Recognition of our failure to pray
4.  Confessing that we have more appetite for material food than for spiritual
5. Acknowledging that we like the company of men more than the company of God.
6. Aboring ourselves because we love to play, more than pray
7. Trusting in the flesh

“We are wondering why we have no revival, God is wondering why we do not break” (pg 114)

“We must turn to him to receive compassion for the multitudes; we must turn to him for power to pray; we must turn to him for vision; we must turn to him for endurance to overcome principalities and powers”

One Response to “How to Have Personal Revival”

  1. Elizabeth Says:

I have been meditating on Isaiah 6 and how Isaiah was ruined in the Presence of God, and this only after he had a vision of the King in His rightful glory. To truly have genuine personal revival, one must:

    1. See the Lord, seated on the Throne (in all His authority)
    2. Be vulnerable, be ruined (Woe is me)
    3. Confess (a man of unclean lips)
    4. Receive cleansing (live coal on lips)
    5. Hear from God (Whom shall I send?)
    6. Willingness (Here am I, send me)

Sometimes, a personal revival will send you clear to another continent, next door, or a few paces down the road, but it will always send you down on your knees.

Bumper sticker: If you’re not ruined, all you’ve got is religion.
